The current hypothesis for this word is that D was a bad speller, which I find ludicrous. The first clue is that the word “MELENCOLIA” is spelled wrong, the second “E” should be an “A.”. The Dürer Hypothesis, Volume I begins the author's search for answers involving the purchase of a plate over four years ago at a local flea market for a dollar. Since then, no authority or historian has produced any documentation or presented a similar plate to prove the monogram, date, and initials were not etched by the graphic genius, Albrecht Durer, in the year inscribed - Author: Curtis Adams.
